What is Mpox?
It is a viral infection caused by monkeypox virus. This viral infection may transmit to humans and leads to infection.
How does Mpox spread?
From animals to humans:
- Physical contact with animals
- Animal bite or scratches
- Animal hunting, skinning, trapping
From humans to humans:
- Contact- Skin to skin, mouth to mouth, mouth to skin
- Fomites- clothing, bedding, towels, objects, pen
- Coughing and sneezing
Who is at high risk for Mpox infection?
- Close contact persons with patient of Mpox
- Children
- Pregnant women
- People >65 years of age
- Immunocompromised person
What are the symptoms of Mpox?
- Skin rash
- Fever
- Headache
- Muscle pain
- Back pain
- Weakness
- Enlarged lymph nodes
- Sore throat

What is the risk during pregnancy due to Mpox?
As pregnancy is a high risk state for Mpox. It may affect the fetus and newborn which can leads to abortion, still birth, neonatal death. Deterioration of the clinical status of pregnant mother.
Is any vaccine available in India against Mpox?
No.
